From Edie: Discover how Christian writers can embrace change, surrender to God’s calling, and let their light shine through every season of the writing journey.
By Kennita (Kay) Williams
Scripture: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 (NKJV)
The air has shifted.
There is that unmistakable crispness that signals a new season—Fall. Trees begin their annual wardrobe change, trading summer’s greens for radiant hues of crimson, gold, and burnt orange. It is a breathtaking display that never fails to capture our attention.
Every leaf tells a story of transformation. It is not that the color suddenly appears; rather, the true hue of the leaf has been hidden beneath the green tones all along. When the season shifts and the light lessens, what has been inside is finally revealed.
And isn’t that what happens when God invites us, as Christian Communicators, into a new season of our calling?
The Beauty of the “Fall”
In nature, Fall is often associated with endings, leaves letting go, branches left bare. Yet in God’s creative rhythm, Fall is not about death; it is about revelation. The hidden beauty appears with vibrant colors giving hope.
Likewise, when we “fall” into our calling, when we surrender, and lean fully into the gifts God has placed within us what has been concealed beneath layers of comparison, fear, and perfectionism finally comes forth.
- Your words.
- Your voice.
- Your message.
They have been there all along, waiting for the right season of light and surrender to reveal their color.
Falling in Love Again
Maybe, you have been weary in your writing or hesitant to share your message. Maybe your confidence has faded like late-summer blooms. I understand. The creative journey can feel unpredictable and at times full of drafts, delays, and doubt.
But just as the trees do not resist the change of seasons, we too are called to embrace the shift. To fall again, not away from, but into our divine purpose.
- To “fall” in love with the One who gave us the gift.
- To “fall” into the rhythm of writing that brings Him glory.
- To “fall” in step with His Spirit as He breathes new inspiration into our craft.
Revealed in the Light
Matthew 5:16 reminds us: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Notice, our light is not meant to draw attention to us; it is meant to illuminate Him. When we write, speak, teach, or create from a place of authenticity and obedience, our words become radiant reflections of the Creator’s glory.
Just as autumn leaves catch the sunlight and seem to glow from within, our creative expressions shine brightest when the light of Christ filters through us. That is when our audiences do not just see our skill—they sense His presence.
Letting Go to Show Forth
Before a leaf reveals its color, it must first begin the process of release. The tree lets go of what once defined its summer identity so that the true hue can appear.
Friend, maybe this is your season to let go.
- Let go of striving.
- Let go of comparison.
- Let go of the pressure to sound like someone else.
God did not call you to be a copy… He called you to be a communicator of clarity, truth, and grace in your unique voice.
When you fall into alignment with that truth, your creativity becomes worship. Your writing becomes witness. And your words whether on a stage, in a post, a podcast, or a page become leaves of healing that drift into the hands of those who need them most.
The Sound of Surrender
Have you ever noticed the sound of leaves rustling in the wind? It is subtle, yet unmistakable, a holy whisper of surrender.
I imagine heaven leans in when God’s communicators do the same. When we lift our pens, open our laptops, or step behind microphones with hearts bowed low, saying, “Lord, use this for Your glory,” our surrendered sound becomes symphonic praise.
It is then that our creative “fall” becomes a divine rising, our voices lifted higher in Him.
A Season of Radiance
This Fall, as you walk beneath trees illuminated with color, let it remind you of your own sacred calling. The same God who paints the leaves with splendor has painted purpose into your words.
He has entrusted you with a gift meant to shine, not for self-promotion, but for Kingdom proclamation.
- You are His communicator.
- You are His storyteller.
- You are His light in the literary landscape of this world.
So, let your light shine. Let your words fall gracefully into the hearts of readers who need the warmth of His truth. Let your creativity be the vibrant canopy under which others find shade, rest, and renewal.
Reflection & Prayer
As the leaves fall, may we too fall into grace, into gratitude, into deeper love for the Giver of every good and perfect gift.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the beauty of change and the reminder that every season holds purpose. Help me to fall in love again with the gift You have given me, help me to use my words, my voice, and my creativity to bring You glory. Let my light shine in such a way that others see You through me. Amen
