Spiritual Loving Care for Your Writing Friends

Marketing and writing can discourage writers with rejection, low sales, poor platform, or getting stuck in the writing process. A friend recently thanked me for a little care package of silly items that she is opening up slowly to keep her going. It's not costly and filled with little dollar store and office items I had around the house, but matched with words and scriptures to lift her spirits.

When announcement time came at the end of our worship service, he proudly proclaimed he had just celebrated his ninth birthday for the ninth time.

The Equipped Writer

God has a will, or a plan for each of us. Psalm 139:16 (NLT) tells us, You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.

Each of us is on this earth for a specific reason. We may not know it completely right now. We may be in a season of preparation to enter that calling. But God has a plan for me and for you.

We are Equipped

Each of us is on this earth for a specific reason. We may not know it completely right now. We may be in a season of preparation to enter that calling. But God has a plan for each of us.

Some are called to be pastors and teachers, some doctors, lawyers. Some to be auto mechanics, electricians, and plumbers.

Some, like myself, are called to be writers.

In Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT), God tells us “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

Whatever our calling, God will not just throw us into.

Whatever our calling, God will not just throw us into it, like throwing a toddler into the pool so he is forced to learn to swim.

He prepares us.

What makes the preparation fun, and at times frustrating, is that it’s uniquely different for each of us.

One person may go through an entirely different set of life experiences than me, yet end up as a writer. I think this is another example of how God cares for us as individuals. He has a unique and personal relationship with each of us. We are all His favorite child.

And he equips us.

Weekend Worship—What Knot to Do

For I know the plans that I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11

I met several friends for coffee one day and of course, I took my knitting with me. For some reason it’s impossible for me to just sit still—I have to be doing something. And that something is usually knitting.

As we went back and forth, discussing our days one of my friends mentioned how neatly my ball of yarn was behaving. It should have been, I’d spent hours winding that particular ball of thread. I knew better than to try to use it straight from the skein.

This past week our family had quite a scare. 

Our youngest son was back home from college and at a trampoline park with friends. He landed wrong and broke his back. 

Fortunately there was no spinal cord damage.

Now, I’m good in a crisis. For some reason what makes other people panic creates in me to the ability to act clearly and decisively. So when they brought him home, I was woman-in-control. I can be calm and clear-headed in the worst catastrophe.
