by Linda Gilden @LindaGilden

As we start a new year, I hope you have taken time to set some goals for your writing and figure out what you’d like to accomplish in 2023. When we assess our writing goals, we need to take a look at markets, article and book deadlines, and creative ways to sell books.

Carolina Christian Writers Conference

Edie here. We're ramping up into writing conference season. I've already attended two this year as part of the faculty—Asheville Christian Writers Conference and Florida Christian Writers Conference. I'll be part of another one in a couple of weeks, the Carolina Christian Writers Conference. Linda Gilden is the director and a good friend. Today I persuaded her to give us a preview of what to expect!

Personality and the Writer

Edie here. Today I'm excited to introduce a guest post from a good friend of mine, Linda Gilden. Linda isn't just a fabulous writer, she's also a conference director. The Carolina Christian Writers Conference is one of my go-to recommendations every single year.

Recently a friend called. “How do you do this?” she demanded.

“Do what?” I asked.

“How do you sit there all day and write? Don’t you get bored? Are you tired of being by yourself?”

A New Year, A New Story?

by Lynette Eason @LynetteEason

How do you keep your writing fresh and the ideas flowing?

So…it’s now January 7th. That means we’ve just begun a new year. Have you made your resolutions? Do you even bother? I definitely have some things I’d like to accomplish this year, but instead of making them resolutions, I’ve decided to just pray about it. LOL.

Life has taken a new turn for my family. I quit the day job—yes, the one that had the benefits—and am now homeschooling my son and am back to writing full time.  Which also means I’m looking ahead to the next twelve months.  Which means I need lots and lots of material! LOL. So where am I going to find it?

Want me to share a secret? You want to know where I get a lot of my ideas?

Interview With a Conference Director—Linda Gilden—Carolina Christian Writers Conference

I have known Linda Gilden from way back when. We both started in the industry about the same time. I respect her writing, her leadership, and her heart to help others live out the dream God has planted in their hearts. And it's an honor to introduce her to you!

EM: When did you take over this conference?

LINDA: This is my third year directing the Carolina Christian Writers Conference. In 2011 it moved from Anderson, SC, to Spartanburg’s First Baptist Church. There is plenty of room, and it is a great facility.

As the director of this conference, as well as the CLASS conference, can you share a little of your philosophy behind running a conference?

When I first attended a writers conference, my young children said I had gone to “writers paradise.” I think that’s because when I returned home I was so excited and happy. I had found where I belonged. I had been to a place where there were people just like me who loved to write and shared a mission to tell the world about God’s love.
