Calendar Days—May's Crazy Holidays & Special Occasions—Idea Starters for Writers

by Edie Melson @EdieMelson

It’s time again for Calendar Days. These are just fun to read. They’re also a great way to jumpstart our creativity when looking for ideas for articles and blog posts. They’re also a fun writing prompt idea.

In addition, calendar days are great conversation starters for social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, especially when two contrasting holidays fall on the same date. Here are some that tickled my funny bone this month:

May sixth is National Teachers Day and No Homework Day. I wonder if that's for the teacher's benefit or the students? May eighth is No Socks Day, followed by May ninth, which is Lost Sock Memorial Day. Did someone lose a sock when they went without? May eighteenth is No Dirty Dishes Day and Visit Your Relatives Day—I definitely want them to visit when there aren't any dirty dishes in the sink!

Now let's do a little brainstorming for May. What are some of your favorite days from the list and how do you propose using them?

Don't forget to join the conversation,

  1. I'm just hoping my hubby doesn't learn that May 22 is "Buy a Musical Instrument Day." :) I always enjoy these posts, Edie.

  2. I love this. I wrote about National Blah Blah Day in April because of your Calendar Days Post. Thanks! Beth

  3. This is great. For me, May will always be the most significant month in the calendar year. And you have just reinforced that.

  4. May is also Lyme Disease Awareness Month an event recognized Worldwide to raise awareness for the growing incidence of this debilitating tick-borne illness. Many events and fundraisers occur to raise funds for research and many people will wear lime green ribbons to show their support. More than 300,000 cases of Lyme disease are diagnosed in the US each year, and those numbers are on the rise.

  5. I'll be busy all day, May 9th, mourning a multitude of lost socks. And I'm wondering how the selection process works for Be a Millionaire Day? I'd like to put my name in the hat. :)
    Fun list, as always, Edie!

  6. Hey! It's gonna take me all month to read this list. :-) Thanks for this. It's already given me some ideas.
