The Refinement of Publishing Patience

We all need it and we all abhor it.

God has used patience to refine my writing in ways I never thought possible. That process of waiting hasn't just given me time to learn how to write, it's also given me time to grow into the stresses and stimulation of writing as a chosen profession. It's been incredibly painful and a blessing beyond belief as I've watched my hopes and dreams begin to come to fruition. 

How has God used patience to answer the cry of your heart?

Patience Now for Writers & Dreamers

There is a scene in Star Wars, Episode IV, where Luke is attacking the Death Star, about to drop a bomb down a chute to the core of the weapon. His wing commander tells him, “Wait for it. Wait for it.

Did you know the Lord tells us basically the same thing? In Habakkuk 2:2 – 3 (NLT) the prophet writes:

Then the Lord said to me, “Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others. This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.

How many of us have ever prayed along the lines of: Lord, fill me with Your patience. NOW? I think we all have in one form or another. We have a dream, a desire, a goal and it feels like it’s never going to happen.

Weekend Worship—Persistant Patience

Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Ps 37:7 

I don’t know about you, but waiting patiently isn’t in my top ten of favorite things to do. I hate being patient, whatever it is—I want it, and I want it now. I would like to think I’m a product of my times and environment. After all, we live in a world of the ‘instant now’. How nice it would be to put the blame somewhere other than my immaturity.

This has been particularly true when it comes to my writing life. I want that answer, that contract, that opportunity—NOW. I don’t want to wait for my experience level to match my ambitions. But, time has taught me that God really does know what He’s doing. I can honestly say I’m glad God has delayed and given me time to become a better writer.

God has shown me that’s all impatience is, immaturity with a mask. So many times in my life, if God had given me the answer the moment I asked, I would have missed out on so much. I would have missed the sweet prayer time, the fellowship with others who shared in my journey, and the ultimate joy of something anticipated and achieved. I would have also missed out on being used by God to teach and comfort others as they saw Him work in my life.

Weekend Worship - Waiting on God
