How to Use ChatGPT to Repurpose Your Content and Generate Fresh Article Ideas

Have you ever wanted a personal assistant who can take your previously written content and offer ideas for new articles? ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot program, can be your personal idea generator, giving you more article titles than you can handle.
While I understand we’re in the figure-it-out phase of AI, using it to show me other uses from my own content seems fine. I respect that everyone may not agree, but this article aims to share one way that I’ve found ChatGPT useful in my writing.
What is ChatGPT?
ChatGPT is a highly capable AI chatbot developed by OpenAI. It uses advanced machine learning and natural language processing to understand your questions and generate human-like text. You can use it for everyday tasks like writing, brainstorming ideas, summarizing documents, coding, and solving math problems.
When given the right instructions (prompts), the results can be incredibly creative. But the answers it provides are only as good as the prompts you offer. Remember, it’s only a machine. Recall the saying, “Garbage in, garbage out”? That applies here, as well. An AI program, such as ChatGPT, can only help you when you learn how to communicate effectively with it.
What is an AI Prompt?
An AI prompt is any text, question, or instruction you give to an artificial intelligence tool to tell it what you want it to do. Think of a prompt as a written instruction or question.
There are different types of prompts:
- Directions. “Give me 7 more article ideas from the attached article.”
- Questions. “What is the overall point of this article?
- Roleplay. “Pretend you’re an expert social media manager. Give me 5 social media ideas from the attached article.”
- Creative writing. “Write a 500-word article about how to use ChatGPT to generate article ideas from your own content.”
Again, the prompt is the key to the content an AI chatbot, such as ChatGPT, will generate. Think of it this way: the boss (you) tells your personal assistant (AI) to help out. If you don’t tell them exactly what you want them to do, you’ll be disappointed with the results.
An Example of Using ChatGPT to Generate Article Ideas
If you have a catalog of previously written blogs, articles, or even a book, consider giving ChatGPT this directive:
Pretend you’re a highly creative writer. Give me 10 article titles from the attached file.
Then attach the file containing the article, blog, or book. If the content is already online, you can paste the article’s internet URL (web address) into the directive instead of uploading a file. Hit the send button, and the article ideas will appear in mere seconds.
You can give it further prompts to get better ideas, if necessary. And of course, feel free to use your God-given, superior intellect to reject them entirely, edit to your preferences, or make up your own. AI can only replace your ability if you let it. But when utilized as your helper, it can be highly effective at increasing your productivity and saving you time.
A Word of Caution
Using ChatGPT, or any AI chatbot, can become an unhealthy temptation. It’s vital to keep it in its proper place—as your assistant—not as a replacement for you and your own creativity. When used to boost your writing productivity, especially by showing you ways to recycle your own ideas to reach even more people, it can be positive.

I have been using ChatGPT to brainstorm book plot ideas, find research material and create pictures of my characters rather than looking all over the internet for photos that remind me of them, I use it for research for new blog content or questions on historical tidbits while I write. Things that used to take hours to research one point I can know di in moments. I always ask GPT to post the source so I can read those to confirm what it found. I haven't tried social media ideas yet. Thanks for sharing.

Also a great reminder to ask ChatGPT to provide the sourcing. Personally, I always check the source and read the content myself to decide if I trust it.

There is so much fear about AI, which seems to be a common reaction to anything new. Think of all the new tools that have come along that used to strike fear in the hearts of man. The automobile, the typewriter, the computer, etc. As with everything, there is a wrong way and a right way to use them. Thank you for showing us the right way.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right, Marilyn. As I shared in the article, I use ChatGPT as a personal assistant. Research this, give me bulleted ideas on this, etc. It can be very helpful, but as with anything, caution is always wise.
