There’s something special about the month of May.
Flowers begin to bloom with intention. Trees that once looked bare now carry vibrant expression. What was once hidden beneath the soil begins to rise, unfold, and reveal its beauty.
But blooming doesn’t happen by accident.
It happens after a season of being rooted, stretched, pruned, and prepared.
And for us as Christian communicators writers, speakers, leaders May is a powerful reminder:
A Lesson From the Garden
A few years ago, I decided to plant flowers outside my home. I was excited. I picked out beautiful blooms, carefully placed them in the soil, watered them, and expected them to flourish quickly.
But within days, they began to droop.
Confused, I went back to the store and spoke with someone who understood gardening better than I did. After listening to my process, they asked me one simple question:
“Did you check how much sunlight they needed?”
I hadn’t.
Some of the flowers I planted required full sunlight, but I had placed them in the shade.
Others needed less water, but I was overwatering them in my excitement to see them grow.
In that moment, I realized something that shifted my perspective:
Growth requires more than effort it requires alignment.
As communicators, we can be doing all the “right” things writing, posting, speaking, sharing, but if we are not aligned with God’s direction, our efforts can still feel unfruitful.
We may be expressing… but not blooming.
Rooted Before You Release
The truth is, God is not just concerned with what we produce, He is concerned with where we are planted and how we are growing.
Scripture reminds us in Psalm 1:3:
“That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither, whatever they do prospers.”
Notice the key phrase: “in season.”
Blooming is seasonal.
Expression is seasonal.
And as communicators, we must learn to discern the difference between a season to prepare and a season to release.
There is a temptation to rush the process, to post before praying, to speak before seeking, to write before listening.
But when we take the time to root ourselves in God’s presence, our expression carries a different weight.
It becomes intentional.
It becomes impactful.
It becomes aligned.
Focus Fuels the Bloom
In a world full of noise, distractions, and constant content, focus has become a rare discipline.
Yet focus is what allows what’s inside of you to fully develop.
Focus is what nurtures your voice.
Focus is what gives your message clarity.
The Apostle Paul reminds us in Philippians 4:8:
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure… think about such things.”
What we focus on shapes what we produce.
If our minds are scattered, our message will be scattered.
If our attention is divided, our expression will be diluted.
But when we fix our focus on God, His truth, His voice, His direction we begin to bloom in a way that is both authentic and anointed.
Blooming With Expression
Expression is more than speaking or writing it is the overflow of what God is doing within you.
It is your testimony.
It is your obedience.
It is your willingness to share what God has entrusted to you.
But here is the key:
Not every bloom looks the same.
Some communicators are bold and visible.
Others are quiet but deeply impactful.
Some speak to crowds.
Others write words that reach hearts in private moments.
Comparison can cause us to question our expression, but God never called us to mimic He called us to be faithful.
Your bloom is unique.
Your voice is needed.
Your message has purpose.
May You Bloom With Intention
So as you move through this month of May, I encourage you:
Don’t just move—focus.
Don’t just express—align.
Don’t just produce—bloom with intention.
Take time to pause before you write.
Seek God before you speak.
Listen before you press publish.
Because when your focus is rooted in Him, your expression will flourish in ways you never imagined.
And in the right season, your words will bloom… bringing life, clarity, and encouragement to those who need it most.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gifts You have placed within us to communicate, create, and share. As we enter this new season, help us to focus on You above all distractions. Teach us to be rooted in Your Word, aligned with Your will, and patient in Your timing.
Lord, guide our thoughts, our words, and our expression. Let what we release reflect Your truth, Your love, and Your purpose. Help us not to rush the process, but to trust that in the right season, we will bloom exactly as You have designed.
May our voices bring clarity, encouragement, and life to those who hear and read our words.
