From Edie: Discover six simple, meaningful ways writers can encourage and support other writers—through reviews, sharing, kindness, and community-building all year long.

There are a couple of things we writers appreciate from our readers. Some are very basic, read our books, tell others about it, and even write and leave a review of our book on several book selling sites. I’m going to take that one step further as we end 2025—maybe the suggestions below could be added to your Goals for 2026 list.
Most of us enjoy receiving a gift or a kind word, wouldn’t you agree? How often are we quick to give those. I don’t mean to give your family and close friends gifts or show kindness, you should already do that. I mean do you share gifts and kindness to fellow writers also? Not only at Christmas when those are often anticipated, but throughout the year.
Below are six suggestions to help spread gifts and kindness to other writers, not just in your close writerly circle:
S – Support new, or new to you, writers by signing up for their newsletters, follow them on social media sites you are involved in if they are there, or follow their blog from their website. If they are writing what you write, or what you read, follow them. We all know what it feels like to see a new follower in any of those categories above, right?
P – Purchase an eBook, paperback or at least borrow from the library a new to you author whether they are in your genre or not. Often you find a new favorite author or genre you may not have thought about.
R – Review as soon as you finish that book. As an active launch team participant and team manager for over fourteen years, I’ve learned how important those reviews are on so many levels. Help an author out. Whether it’s their new book, or an older one, go leave a review on Amazon and any other sites the book is listed. Once you write the Amazon one, it’s so easy to copy and paste it to those other sites such as Barnes & Noble, Christian Book, BAM, GoodReads and BookBub to name a few.
E – Encourage a writer by sending them a direct message or even an email. Whether you know them or not, a kind word from a fellow writer to boost their spirit may come on a day they needed it the most. You won’t know that – but God sure does. C’mon, who doesn’t like to open an email from another writer telling them to keep on, don’t quit, they can do it?
A – Acknowledge them by taking a minute to repost of one of their graphics or posts about a new release, a great graphic or quote they’ve shared, or a fun photo of their family that you enjoyed. I’ve been happily surprised to receive a direct message back from some very successful authors I didn’t think they’d even notice my comment, thinking they’d be too busy. On more than one occasion, these writers I figured had it all together wrote to tell me how much they appreciated the encouragement because they’d been struggling that day.
D - Determine to do this throughout the next year. I know we’re all busy, but most of us still read books, receive newsletters, follow folks on social media. SPREAD the love, encouragement and kindness to other writers in 2026.
What about you? Will you decide to go beyond your close writerly circle and reach out to new or new to you writers and share the gift of encouragement and kindness? Do you have other ideas of how to encourage fellow writers? Do share!
