Power of Prayer

by Edie Melson @EdieMelson
Even before they call, I will answer; while they are still speaking, I will hear. Isaiah 65:24

Prayer is an amazing thing. I've been reminded lately of the fact that God is always there when we call. Beyond that, He's already putting things in place to answer prayers we've yet to voice.

How have you seen God work before you even called out to him?

  1. Edie, thank you for reminding us of the importance of prayer as the underlying support for our writing endeavors. As I wrote my book (_Confederate Cabinet Departments and Secretaries_), I was apprehensive and mentally preparing myself for multiple rejections and the possibility that it would never see the light of day. But I bathed the whole process in prayer. Prayer that the Lord would help me in the research, in the writing, in the search for a publisher. I prayed that He would keep me from making mistakes of carelessness and ignorance. And, as I made the final changes and additions, I began praying that, if it was God's will for the book to be published, He would guide me to the right publisher, that all of my efforts would not have been expended in vain. He answered beyond my limited faith. I submitted a query to two publishers simultaneously and within a week had a contract. What normally takes a year happened for my book in only seven months. The dream became a reality, and I attribute it to God's answering prayers.

  2. Edie, Thank you for the reminder. I remember praying about a relationship as I walked to the corner store. I knew the toxic relationship had to end but I did not want to let go. I invested 4 years into what I thought would be a lifetime. I prayed, "Lord you have to hit me over the head with a 2X4 or make it so obvious..." My conversation was interrupted by a rumbling. I looked to see a semi truck with this word painted on the side, "Severance." The was the first time I saw a truck like this. The message was clear and I ended the relationship.

  3. I needed some technical work done, but had limited funds. I felt God leading me to ask a particular friend for a reference of who might be able to help me. My friend immediately recommended someone and they charged exactly what I had to spend. (less than the going rate)

  4. i tripped and fell the other day, and in that moment you don't have time to think through protective prayers and Scriptures. rather, because He is watching out for us always, and because i have a relationship established with Him, He literally guided my fall, protecting my new Knee—i literally have no bruises whatsoever! a pulled muscle is the only lingering evidence!
    He is faithful!!
