My biggest step of late has been to take a step back. I've come to realize that this is a journey, and I cannot rush through it. After years of hit and miss attempts, I'm focusing on learning my craft (and actually implementing what I've learned), building my platform (with a little help from you), and helping other writers. That last one, I think, is something I've overlooked more than any other. When we're unpublished, we assume that we have nothing to offer. But that's true. Writers ahead of us and behind us need support. I've volunteered to post on several blogs this year. By doing so I've expanded my "team" of support and have made friends. Writing is a lonely business, which is exactly why we shouldn't try to do it alone.
ReplyDeleteRon, this is really great stuff! Thanks so much for sharing your journey with us. Blessings, E
DeleteRon brings up some great points that I just heard about this morning in a writing conference. Serving others with my talent is my goal. Spotlighting other's ideas is a great way to get where I want to be. Sometimes I forget that being the servant with my talent is the whole point of having a talent. Helping others grow diminishes my selfishness and expands us both at the same time. My goal is to set some goals with others in mind. Thanks for the question that reminds me it is not all about me.
ReplyDeleteErin, I think we all struggle with serving others with our talents. These are good thoughts. Thanks so much for sharing! Blessings, E
DeleteMy steps? Well, I'm stepping in too many different directions, so I too like Ron am stepping back and waiting upon God's direction for a big decision I need to make in my life right now. I love your blog and am so thankful that I have to freedom to visit it. My writing is so slow; I feel so green; and so unsure of it. I love reading posts like yours that encourage me. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThe feeling green part of your writing journey usually ends without fanfare or even notice. It sort of creeps up on you and you realize you've moved from newbie status, to more established without realizing it. Thanks for joining us here! Blessings, E
DeleteThis is the challenge isn't it? Staying on track when life gets hectic. For me, I start with the little things. Blogging, journaling, and then editing. But sometimes the most important part is to spend time with the One who brings inspiration.
ReplyDeleteMichelle, you're so right. Nothing else fits when we leave out God. Thanks for dropping by, Blessings, E
DeleteI'm writing with an affliction. I'm learning that though I have to step gingerly, those steps aren't less important than the leaps I wish to take.
ReplyDeleteThat's so good, the small steps are often times the MOST important! Thanks so much for sharing your journey, Blessings, E
