15 Reasons to Write TODAY

by Edie Melson @EdieMelson

As writers, it's easy to find reasons not to write. So today I wanted to remind all of us—me included—that there are also a lot of reasons to sit down and put those words on a screen (or paper), offering some encouragement to writers. After all it's really just a matter of perspective!

And truthfully, some of those reasons we come up with not to write are the best reasons to write.

15 Reasons to Write Today
  1. Because you’re in the middle of a crisis.
  2. Because you’re not in the middle of a crisis
  3. Because you need to stay in your best writing shape
  4. Because If you don’t you’ll feel worse
  5. Because you have a contract
  6. Because you don’t have a contract
  7. Because you’ve been told you’re a good writer
  8. Because you’ve been told you’re not a good writer
  9. Because you have a gift...and it’s rude not to put it to use
  10. Because you have an idea
  11. Because you don’t have an idea
  12. Because you’re young
  13. Because you’re old
  14. Because God called you to write
  15. Because writers write, and you’re a writer, right?
So who's with me? Will you turn those reasons upside down and agree to begin looking at them as motivation to write? Share your thoughts—and your commitment—in the comments section below!

Don't forget to join the conversation!
Blessings,
Edie

  3. Such truth here. Consciously or not, I’ve given myself permission not to write for all these reasons—except “because I’m young.” Thanks for shining the light of truth on this writing journey.

  8. Hi Edie,

You forgot, “but I’m planning a wedding! & It’s mine!” Probably the best excuse of my life, but the excuse evaporates in 26 days...

    Onward,
