The Contrasts of Life

We are a people defined by contrast. We judge good by bad, abundance by lack, happy by sad. We can't even imagine one without the other—think I'm wrong? Try to picture a coin with only one side. Not possible, is it?

Often my most treasured times follow my most trying times. What about you?

What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness. - John Steinbeck

  1. I was the second of 7 children and at a very early age, around 10, my parents seemed to trust me with so many things. They seemed to value my opinion. To have that kind of validation by your parents as a child was a huge feather in my cap.

  2. As one stumbling and bumbling into the "older" generation, I sure look at the "younger" generation quite differently than when I was on that side of middle age. So there are definitely contrasting views of all he other contrasts in life. Talk about contrasts: when I was a member of the younger generation, I actually had all the answers - now I find I have so few. Great post, Edie!
