Where to Go for Free/Copyright Free Images—and Other Helpful Sites for Writers

One of the questions I get asked most often is where to find images that can be used on a blog without copyright infringement. Today I'm sharing where to go for Free/Copyright Free Images.

Sites for Free/Copyright Free Images:

The site I recommend/use the most is Microsoft Clip Art. But they have recently made some changes in how you can access the images. Below is the link and step by step instructions on how to access the images.

- this is the current way to find Microsoft Clip Art images online. Microsoft has now teamed up with the search engine, BING. Here are the steps to make sure the image you use is FREE/COPYRIGHT FREE

1. Type what you're searching for into the search box. I used the word, BABY. Below is what you'll see pop up:

2. You want to hover your curser over the word LICENSE and then click FREE TO SHARE AND USE COMMERCIALLY. I've used pink arrows in the screenshot below to show you where to find what I'm referring to:

3. After you click that option, the images available will change slightly. See the screenshot below:

Another site for Images:
I've also begun referring blogger to the site: Morguefile

  7. Most people probably already know this, but Behind the Name (http://www.behindthename.com/) is a good place to get names by gender, origins, random names, etc.

  8. Thanks, Edie! We certainly had this question asked at our ebook workshop last Saturday. I appreciate your giving us this good information in your blog. I am going to tweet this blog since I just noticed your button under your signature. I need to know how to get these share buttons at the bottom of my blogs! Next class...? Blessings, Elva Martin

  9. Thanks, Edie, I was surprised by this myself recently. I've found some wonderful photos at www.freedigitalphotos.net . Be sure to read the rules on this one. You must provide attribution for every photo you use.
